iPod touch is a barrel of fun. And also a barrel of function.

Multitasking. Juggle more.

iPod touch gives you a better way of multitasking. Now you can run your favorite third-party apps — and switch between them instantly — without slowing down the performance of the foreground app or draining the battery unnecessarily.

Folders. Clear out the clutter.

Thanks to the App Store, you can choose from over 425,000 apps and games. But these apps can fill your Home screens pretty quickly. That’s where the new Folders feature comes in. It gives you an easy way to keep your apps organized and declutter your Home screens. And you can launch your favorite apps with a couple of taps.

Keyboard. It knows what you’re trying to say.

The iPod touch keyboard accelerates your typing because it tracks what you type, then suggests words, corrects spelling, and inserts punctuation for you. The trick is to just type away and trust the intelligence of the keyboard.

Search. And get results in a tap.

Spend less time searching and more time playing, listening, or reading. With Search, everything on your iPod touch is just a few taps away. On the main Home screen, flick to the right, then type what you’re looking for in the search field. Search looks through everything on your iPod touch — app names, calendars, songs, email, notes, and more. From there, a single tap takes you where you want to go.

Fill your Calendar.

Calendar works with Yahoo!, Google, Microsoft Outlook, iCal, and Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync for enterprise. Add events with a few taps. Set reminder alerts. Subscribe to calendars for things such as national holidays and sports schedules.

Contacts. It’s who you know.

Put names, email addresses, phone numbers, and more at your fingertips. Sync contacts on your Mac or PC to iPod touch using iTunes. Add new contacts on the go with a tap.

Keep an eye, and a finger, on your investments.

Stocks on iPod touch shows you charts, financial details, and headline news for any stock you choose. When you want more details about a stock’s performance, tap the Y! button for instant access to Yahoo! Finance.

Take Notes.

Forget pen and paper. Or worse, pen and the back of your hand. Use Notes on iPod touch to write yourself a quick note and keep important information within reach. Send notes to yourself or others via email and sync them back to your Mac or PC. If you use an IMAP account, your notes can even sync over the air — complete with custom fonts.

Weather reports.

Want to know if you should bring an umbrella or pack a sweater? Check the weather in your hometown or around the world. Add the cities you want, then flick back and forth to get six-day forecasts for each. Tap the Y! button to open a Yahoo! city guide that shows you what’s happening, rain or shine.

Calculator. Good with numbers.

Calculator on iPod touch does double duty. In portrait mode, you can use Calculator for simple calculations, like splitting a restaurant bill. Rotate iPod touch to landscape, and it becomes a sophisticated scientific calculator.

Wi-Fi. Stay connected.

iPod touch has built-in support for 802.11b/g/n wireless technology. That means you can get online anywhere there’s Wi-Fi. Send email from a coffee shop. Surf the web at the airport. Shop for games from your couch. Browse, buy, and download music and more from the iTunes Store. iPod touch locates nearby wireless hot spots, including protected networks. If you’ve never used a particular network, it asks you to enter a password the first time, and it remembers the password from then on. So the next time you’re within range, it connects automatically.

Encryption. Strictly personal.

iPod touch offers highly secure hardware encryption. The Data Protection feature uses your passcode as an encryption key to protect email messages and attachments stored on iPod touch. You can set a long, complex passcode to make iPod touch even more secure. And if you lose your iPod touch and can’t track it down, use Remote Wipe to delete your data. (You can restore everything from your latest backup if you get your iPod touch back.)

Parental Controls. Good clean fun.

Control what kids can and can’t access on iPod touch. Set restrictions for Safari, YouTube, iTunes, multiplayer games, the App Store, Camera, and location services.

Bluetooth. Cut the cords.

Bluetooth wireless technology lets you use devices without the hassle of cables or wires. What does that mean for iPod touch? It means you can use it with wireless headphones and listen to your music no matter where in the room your iPod touch is. So lounge on your bed, while your iPod touch charges on your desk. Bluetooth wireless technology on iPod touch is also great for peer-to-peer gaming.
